Just ran across this PDF viewer SDK. Haven't tried it, but price is reasonable: 25,000 distro licenses for $699 for the DLL version.

Apparently forms support, including javascript, will soon be available. Currently includes viewing and printing.

I downloaded and installed their free viewer. Impressive. Very well designed, and has markup and form saving features with ordinary PDFs, not just Adobe "rights enabled" ones. Even supports insertion of stamps and "Sticky Notes".

This goes way beyond Foxit's free viewer.

They're using gdiplus for the rendering, so I suspect print spool file sizes will be much larger than Adobe Reader's, but you can't have everything for free...

I downloaded the free viewer, but quick testing shows you can't actually fill TEXT form fields.

Check their forum, text form field filling/saving is coming soon.

http://www.docu-track.com/home/prod_user/pdfx_viewer/ - does not support Windows 2000 as of now, but an updated version will be available soon.

An updated version of http://www.docu-track.com/home/prod_user/pdfx_viewer/ - - PDF XChange Viewer  compatible with all Windows Versions from Windows 2000 and later is now available.

The new version seems to allow entering form fields text, but saving the file doesn't save the TEXT that was entered in the form fields. Also, Tab keys don't move between form fields and a multi-line form field doesn't show it's initial text until you click inside it.

I don't think the forms support is fully implemented yet. The past few days, the site was saying forms support would be added in March, but now it says:

Coming soon : Full JavaScript Forms support, Stamps, Advanced Type Writer formatting options, faster and improved JPEG2000 decoding/encoding and much more - all 100% FREE, with the PDF-XChange Viewer!

The current version of the viewer now saves form data with the PDF. The export to fdf format doesn't appear to work yet, but exporting to multiple image formats, including jpg and tiff, appears to work OK. The company claims it now fully support javascript, but I haven't tested it.

In addition to the many markup tools from the previous version, they now include a highlite tool (I suggested it on their forum a month or so ago, and here it is!)

Time to say goodbye to Adobe Reader?
