I have a very unusual problem. I have made a program in powerbasic. One of the things it does is make a billing pdf form.
The program is located on file server. 3 PC's (all win 7) are using the program.
One one PC the pdf file is shown correctly.
One the other 2 the file that is made is corrupt. It can not be shown.
If you look at it with an editor you see that the /kids entry is corrupt:

%PDF-1.4
%âãÏÓ
1 0 obj
<<
/Type /Pages
/Count 1
/Kids [ 2 0         €endobj
2 0 obj
<<
/Type /Page
/Parent 1 0 R
/Resources <<

Between the 0 and the €endobj there are several null-characters!!!
If I correct this in the editor the file is OK.
What could be the problem here?

Marc

Hi Marc!

This would be the correct content in your case:
. . .
1 0 obj
<</Type /Pages /Count 1 /Kids [2 0 R ]>>endobj
. . .
2 0 obj
<</Type /Page /Parent 1 0 R /. . .
. . .
I assume that the three billing forms are made from three different sources (csv or something similar). Perhaps there's still a data problem in the source?

Cheers, Ingo

Hello Ingo,

Sorry I did not reply sooner.
This is the funny part. Both computer are using the same program and printing a billing form of the same client!!!

p.s. Are atachments allowed? I can atach both pdf's. Made at the same time.

Hi!

For attachments and support you should get on the official support pages.
There's an upload-functionality, too.
This here is only a user-user-forum.

Cheers, Ingo

Thank you Ingo,
So you are puzzled too :)
Could you tell me where I can find the pdf format. I would like to know what the R stands for in
/Kids [2 0 R ]

Many thanks,
Marc

Hi Marc!

On the Adobe-pages you'll find the pdf-specifications.
A document with hundreds of pages ;-)

I don't think that it's a real problem you have.
It's only a concatination of small installation problems.
QuickPDF (for example) needs the gdiplus.dll ...
Is it on each win-installation?
Is it always the same version?
Are there other QuickPDF-installations?
Many questions... i think making a complete new win7-installation will sove the problem...

Cheers, Ingo

Thank you again. Will try the official support first.
Reinstalling WIN7 to get my pdf functionality working is a bit drastic.

Hi Marc!

On one system it works and on another same? system it doesn't work.
So it's up to you where's the difference.
I fear this isn't possible to answer from far away ;-)

Cheers, Ingo

Hi,
Just a follow-up.
The computer where it worked was a member of a HomeGroup. As soon as I put the other 2 computers in that HomeGroup they were able to generate non-corrupt pdf files.

?!?!?!?!?
